HTC started making premium looking metallic smartphones a while back, and they look really remarkable. The HTC M9 is now a little bit older, but it still holds a great deal of respect simply because of its stylish looks and appropriate specs. With the help of some great custom ROM for HTC M9, you’ll be able to get new features on a slightly older smartphone. Even though HTC did a great job in making the Android skin a lot closer to the stock version, it is still very far away from a pure Android experience. It is only natural that you would want to install a custom ROM on the smartphone and gain new features and overhaul the whole experience. The HTC M9 is one of the best looking Android smartphones on the market, and it continues to impress even today. It is now at least a year old, and most of the warranties have expired, so if, you have one of these bad boys, you don’t have to worry about avoiding any warranties when you root it and install a custom ROM. And to be honest, using HTC’s Android skin, you must have been a little bit bored with what the company has done with Android. However, before you start experimenting with the HTC M9, you should study about your smartphone and how to root it and flash custom software on it. It is not a very hard process to understand, but if you are negligent or not careful, you may do permanent damage to your device. So a little bit of attention and caution is required while flashing new custom ROMs on HTC M9. Without further ado, let’s start with the five great custom ROM for HTC M9 list.
1. ViperOneM9
This is beyond any doubt one of the best custom ROM for HTC M9 and has a wonderful developer behind it. It’s an Android 6.0 based ROM and supports all carriers. This point is very important because a lot of other ROMs only support a certain carrier, closing off access to others. Viper ROM does away with those pesky restrictions and runs great on all of the HTC M9 variants. The developers behind this ROM are constantly updating it with new features and additions. I’m surprised that they are so active as compared to other developers, and this is a great thing to have in a ROM. The ROM comes with a great Aroma installer that allows you to customize your installation, install only the required keyboards, remove apps that you don’t need and even optimizes the GPS accuracy. This is the first HTC Sense based ROM that supports multi-users, allowing you to create different users for a singular device. You can even add a guest profile so that friends can access certain features of your smartphone. Another great feature of this ROM is the enhanced quick settings notification features. You can add up to 25 tiles in the notification bar and easily access almost any function from anywhere. An advanced navigation bar allows you to have up to five buttons on it giving you quick access to essential features. I can go on for a lot longer when it comes to this custom ROM for HTC M9, but I recommend that you check out the landing page on the XDA forums for more details. Overall I’m very impressed with the quality of the ROM and how it is presented, so it gets a highly recommended badge from me.
2. Maximus HD ROM
The HTC M9 apparently is very loved by the developers, and they have done some great work on it. After writing about nonexistent ROMs for midrange smartphones, this is a very fresh breath of air. Maximus HD ROM is based on the stock HTC M9 Sense 7.0 and comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This ROM has amazing battery life, is fast and stable and is even tweaked for better performance. You’ll be getting on the air updates from the developers as well. From advanced power menu to multiuser support and from display color calibrations to option to remove unwanted apps, this ROM nails it all. If it weren’t for Viper taking the top spot, I would have given this ROM the number one position on the list. I like how detailed their XDA forum landing page is and how clearly it explains everything.
3. LeeDroid One M9
LeeDroid has been around on the Android development scene for a very long time, and many of the smaller mods have spawned off from his work. So it’s no surprise that this ROM for HTC M9 is well polished and works well on almost any variant of the smartphone. It is based on the HTC Europe 3.35 official base, but international as well as US carrier versions are supported. The ROM borrows HTC Sense 7 and Sense 8 features as well as HTC Freestyle themes. It is a rooted ROM that is also Deodexed and zip-aligned. The developer has also cleaned up bloat found on the smartphone and installed BusyBox. There are a lot of different features available on this ROM, and I highly recommend that you go through them on the XDA forum’s main page.
4. Android Revolution HD
If you like the stock HTC ROM, then this custom ROM for HTC M9 is made for you. It is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with the latest official HTC 3.33 firmware. As it is just an improved version of the stock ROM, there are no visual changes seen here. Like I said, this ROM is for those who like the look and feel of the HTC Sense interface. However, the ROM is fast, clean and stable with a full HTC Sense 7.0 interface. There are a lot of under the hood tweaks to the ROM though, the developer has removed software rendering and made the ROM fully optimized and tweaked. The ROM is also rooted and comes with Busy Box. The dev has also improved the CPU governor’s performance and disabled kernel debugging for better performance.
5. ICE M9 ROM
This ROM is based on the HTC Sense 8 WWE base 3.3 5.40 1.12 and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The best thing about this ROM is that all ACC M9 variants are supported, this includes international, AT&T, T-mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. The ROM also has a lot more languages enabled by default. It is a pre-rooted ROM that also comes with busy box. The battery life, memory management, and performance have all been tweaked to provide a better experience. The ROM disables logging and removed the bloatware found on the smartphone. The ROM increases the Quick Settings tiles to 15 from 12. The ROM also introduces a colorful navigation bar. With the support of native call recording and auto call recording features, this ROM comes with serious call recording capabilities.
Conclusion
This is a smartphone that is beloved by a lot of developers, and there are quite main reasons for that. For one, the smartphone looks remarkable, and another reason is that a lot of people simply love HTC smartphones. The HTC smartphones, especially the flagships, use premium materials and they feel great to the touch. While the HTC One M10 is doing great, the HTC M9 is still one of the better looking HTC smartphones around. So what do you think about these great ROMs?
