Maybe you want to sell the device on, or you have to use the warranty to fix an issue with the hardware. Whatever the case, we’ve prepared a list that will take you through the necessary steps, with detailed information and images to boot. You Will Need:
Your 6PUSB wireComputer or Laptop
Method 1: WugFresh
(Note: The WugFresh method won’t work on a Mac, because there is no version of their toolkit available on the platform.) Unrooting through SuperSU isn’t always successful, so using the WugFresh toolkit is one of the best methods to fully unroot your device. To get started with the unroot;
Step 1:
Firstly, you’ll need to download the Nexus Root Toolkit to your PC. Here’s a direct link to the download page for the toolkit. (As you can see, a wide number of Nexus devices are supported.)
Step 2:
Save it to your desktop, and right click the file.
Step 3:
Select the option to Run as Administrator and install it to your computer.
Step 4:
You will now have to select your model and build number. (This means what you are currently running on your 6P.) You can find this information in the About section found in your Settings.) Click Apply when you’re sure to continue.
Step 5:
You will now have to enable USB Debugging on your device. Go to the About section found in your settings and find and tap the Build Number repeatedly until you get a message informing you that you are now a developer.
Step 6:
Back out into the main Settings menu, and you should now have a new choice called Developer Options. Open the new menu, and enable both USB Debugging and OEM Unlock.
Step 7:
You should now be ready to connect your phone to the PC with your USB cable. Plug it in, and accept the option to Allow USB Debugging? when it pops up on the 6P’s screen.
Step 8:
You will then need to download a few files when prompted by the toolkit. When this is complete, you should finally be ready to begin the unrooting process.
Step 9:
In the toolkit menu, select the option called Flash Stock + Unroot. Follow the prompts given to download the stock firmware to your device, as well as flash the file to the 6P.
Step 10:
Wait for your device to reboot, and you should now be running on stock firmware.
Relock the Bootloader (Optional)
- Click the OEM Lock option found in the toolkit, follow the prompts, and the device will reboot your device into bootloader mode, locking it thereafter.
- After a quick reboot, you should now be all set with a completely unrooted device. That’s it. Your device should now be unrooted, and the bootloader will be locked. If you found the toolkit useful, you can always donate to the developer directly on their site as thanks for their hard work.
Conclusion
Rooting your device opens it up to a whole host of possibilities, but there are times when you’re best off with the plain old stock option. When it comes to reselling, it’s probably best to factory reset the device completely, but if you want to keep your files and settings this is probably the best way to go.
