The technology nowadays is so advanced that anything is possible when you are ‘connected’. You can even turn your old-fashioned television set into a smart TV. It only needs to have an HDMI or USB port. Watch the latest movie right at the comfort of your home. Also, binge-watch your favorite TV series or listen to the top charts on Youtube. You can even use the television to browse your social media accounts. All you have to do is connect an Android TV box and you can say goodbye to your good old cable TV. Android TV boxes are versatile. But this versatility contributes to stuffing your TV box’s storage to the brim. When you connect a device to the internet, external files will store caches and other temporary files which is normal. This adds up and could clog your device’s storage but you can clear these up easily. While some of us like to stream films, video clips, and songs, there are others who prefer to download. If you are the latter, you may have downloaded a movie that you are not going to watch again, a song that you will always skip on your playlist, or other files that you have probably forgotten that you have downloaded. But it’s still there, consuming space. Did you know that an average movie uses up to 4GB of storage while a 128kbps song can use 1MB storage per minute? These downloads can take up the most space on your TV box and files like these make your Android TV box slow and ‘laggy’. One way to retain your device’s potential is by freeing up valuable storage spaces on your Android TV Box. The methods below will help you delete downloaded files on your Android TV Box.

Method 1: Deleting Downloaded Files

If you have downloaded files which are not from the Google Play Store, such as mp3/mp4 files, wmv, apk files, images, and the likes, you will find these files in the Download folder. To delete these downloaded files your Android TV Box, you can follow the steps below. Note that the steps may vary depending on your TV box. I am using eKlasse. On my device, the steps would be as follows:

  1. On the Home Screen, select Settings
  2. On the Settings, click Storage.
  3. Click Downloads All your downloaded files will appear on the screen. Select the files that you want to delete then press the trash icon. For other Android TV boxes, the below steps could help:
  4. On your Home Screen, select Settings
  5. On the Settings window, scroll to find the folder named File Browser. On other Android TV Boxes, the File Browser folder might be accessible on the Home Screen already.
  6. Launch the File Browser and select Local Disk.
  7. Launch the Local Disk folder and scroll down to Download folder.
  8. Click the Download Folder. You will find all your downloaded files there.
  9. You may or may not want to delete everything on the Download Folder. You can either select all or select specific files that you want to delete. Click the Select icon to tick the files of your choice.
  10. Look for the icon with a pen on top of the screen. It would usually be beside the Select icon. Click it, then click Delete.
  11. If you have moved your files from Downloads to another folder, scroll to find that same folder on the Local Disk. Open that folder and delete the downloads. This video tutorial will guide you on how to follow the steps above. The main idea is to locate the Download Folder on your Android TV box. From there, you can select the files and proceed to delete them.

Method 2: Deleting Downloaded Apps

If you want to delete applications that you have downloaded from the Google Playstore, you can follow these steps.

  1. On your Home Screen, launch Settings.
  2. Click Apps. Select the application that you want to remove. Select Uninstall then select OK. These steps will also work if you have installed a program and want to uninstall it.
